RHONDDA RADIO FM LAUNCH

By Stephen Jones, Jul 30 2018 02:29PM

After weeks of planning the big day arrived, and what a day we had

We are now live on FM, broadcasting to the communities of the Rhondda.

The official FM switch on took place at our studio at the Treorchy and Cwmparc Boys & Girls club on Sunday 29th July 2018 and the big moment happened at 1pm.

Despite the atrocious weather we had a great turnout for the big day with tremendous support from the community and from all walks of life including local businesses, local councillors, the Mayor of RCT, representatives from charitable, community and social enterprises and from the entertainment world we were blessed with the presence of singing star Lloyd Macey who spent a great while signing autographs and chatting and posing for photos with his fans.

We were also honoured to have two stars of the hit BBC 1 drama ‘Keeping Faith’, both from the Rhondda, the very talented Shelley Rees-Owen and up and coming young actor Demi Letherby who did a great job cutting the celebration cake.

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather and celebrated with us, we are your community radio station and look forward to working with you and bringing you great community radio broadcasts.

Thank you to Lloyd Macey for flicking the FM switch and kicking off the celebrations.

Thank you to the Mayor of RCT, councillor Steve Powderhill, for a lovely and uplifting speech and for all his continued support and encouragement for Rhondda Radio and the Rhondda itself.

Thank you to Demi Letherby for cutting the cake.

A big thank you to Mel and the staff at the Boys & Girls club for always being there for us and allowing us use of your lesser hall for our celebrations.

We cannot survive without funding and we would like to say a massive thank you to all the organisations who have helped us with funding and grants over the years. Without your help we would not be here now. Thank you to Pen Y Cymoedd wind farm community fund CIC, Coalfields regeneration trust, National Lottery awards for all, Trivallis, Welsh church act fund, Roundtable, the Rhondda trust, Gwanwyn and Dwr Cymru Welsh water.

Lastly, but not least, thank you to all our hardworking volunteers and directors who made it happen and who work tirelessly to keep Rhondda Radio broadcasting to the Rhondda.
